Iran reformists and moderates win elections


The coalition of reformist parties and moderate supporters eying Hassan Rouhani won the second round of legislative elections in Iran Friday against conservatives.

According to partial results not yet published the Hope of the reformists and moderates list won at least 33 of the 68 seats in the 290 game has the Parliament.

We must await the final official results and the positions of independent members - 30 elected in total in the second round and the first of February 26th - to see if the allies of President Rohani achieve most of 146 parliamentary seats.

Of the 221 seats allocated in the first round, 103 were awarded to the conservatives or the like, 95 in the reformist-moderate or close to them and 14 independent political orientation indefinite formations.

Among the deputies elected in the first round, there were also four moderate conservatives supported by the reformists, as well as five representatives of religious minorities without clear political affiliation (Jews, Armenians, Assyrians, Zoroastrians).

Three women were elected in the second round and added to the 13 of the first round. The new assembly will comprise 16 women against 9 in the previous, largely dominated by conservatives over 200 elected.
