Colombian government and FARC seal historic peace agreement and close negotiation

















The Government of Colombia and the FARC reached a final peace agreement, after nearly four years of negotiations in Cuba, putting an end to a violent armed conflict, said on Wednesday the guarantor countries.

The historic pact to end the standoff over 52 years, which has left 220,000 dead and millions displaced, considers the demobilization of the guerrillas, abandoning weapons and transformation of the FARC into a political movement.

"The delegations of the National Government and the FARC-EP announced that we have reached a final, comprehensive and final agreement on all the points of the agenda of the general agreement for the termination of the conflict and building a stable peace and lasting in Colombia, "said a joint statement read by the guarantor countries.

The final agreement, a text of more than 200 pages, yet to be sent to Congress signed by President Juan Manuel Santos and the leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Rodrigo LondoƱo, alias "Timoshenko" and subjected to a plebiscite for Colombians support it before implementation.
