Indian police detains band dedicated to the sale of kidneys

New Delhi police conducted a series of arrests as part of an investigation into a band dedicated to the removal of organs suspected of operating in one of the most prestigious private hospitals in the city.

Five people remain in police custody after being arrested for illegal trade in human kidneys, he told CNN Mandeep Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police in southeastern New Delhi.

The plot allegedly involving forged documents delivered to poor patients from the side in the Indraprastha Apollo hospital in India's capital, reported CNN affiliate CNN News 18.

The kidneys were bought by traffickers by a small amount and then resold at very high prices on the black market in organs.
