At least three people were killed and 40 injured Sunday night when it hit a passenger train with one of goods in Belgium, the Belga press agency, citing as its source the mayor of the area, Dejon Francis said.
The accident occurred on the line between Namur and Liege, near the town of Saint Georges sur Meuse, when the passenger train hit behind the load, it was officially reported.
The passenger train "struck a convoy of goods that preceded it on the same track and collided behind. Due to the impact two of the six cars derailed," they said in a statement the National Society of Belgian Railways (SNCB) and Infrabel, company that manages the railway network.
Gathering information to understand what happened has already begun, but "the priority is to deal with the victims," the statement added,
The convoy passengers had departed from Mouscron and heading for Liers, Belgium OSTS crossing to East.
