Practical manual published in the Vatican to fight against extreme poverty

Catholic associations published Thursday in the Vatican a manual to combat extreme poverty that addresses situations such as police violence, forced labor, debt or inequalities in access to health care. AFP

Based on the experience of hundreds of NGOs, led by ATD Fourth World and Franciscans International, this manual offers many instructions social workers.



The manual proposes accurately identify the needs and strengths, in order to determine what can be improved.

The recommended text from the premise that poverty is not inevitable, devote the necessary time to gain the trust of the people, avoid jargon at meetings and not monopolize the word. Also it recommended to know the situation of people in food, ask what they ate over the past 24 hours.

The initiative, which implements the principles adopted by the Human Rights Council of the UN in 2012, is the result of two years of work. Try to be a "practical tool" available to hundreds of thousands of people involved in NGOs, churches or local authorities.
