Pope Francisco confirmed today that he will travel to Mexico next February and to venerate the Virgin of Guadalupe the 13 of that month. "To pray in the jubilee year before the Virgin of Guadalupe and to make it strong, will travel to venerate in the Shrine on 13 February," the pontiff said during his homily in Spanish, at a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica to mark Party that virgin, patron saint of Mexico and the Americas.

The Pope entrusted to the Virgin "the sufferings and joys of people throughout the Americas," and begged him "to guide the footsteps of his American people." This will be the fourth time that Francisco go to his home continent, America, after pastoral visits to Rio de Janeiro (July 2013), Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay (July 2015) and the United States and Cuba (September 2015).
On the way back from his trip to Africa last month, the Argentine Jorge Bergoglio forward and his intention to visit Mexico. Specifically he said would come to the shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City, then visit "three or four cities," including San Cristobal de las Casas (Chiapas), Morelia (Michoacan) and "almost certainly" Ciudad Juarez (Chihuahua).
"The trips do not favor my old-marking. Going to Mexico and the first thing I'll do is visit the Lady, Mother of America (Virgin of Guadalupe), "he said. He explained that "if it were not for her, I would not have gone to Mexico City for the criterion of the trip: visiting three or four cities that have never been visited by a pope."
