Uribe says that FARC has been "the largest cocaine trafficking cartel in the world"

The Colombian president Alvaro Uribe (2002 and 2010) states that the FARC has been "the largest cocaine trafficking cartel in the world" and warned that "peace shoddy" could "increase the violence."

In an interview with the newspaper La Tercera published today, the president, which is currently in Santiago to mark the 25th anniversary of the Freedom and Development-Foundation reviewed the achievements of his administration in the fight against armed groups and criticized the consequences in his view, should a peace agreement with the FARC if signed as is.

"The facts prove it. I do not qualify (FARC), described their actions. They have been the largest cocaine trafficking cartel in the world. Between 1998 and 2003 were responsible for 1,794 kidnappings, "Uribe said.

As for the eventual peace agreement between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Government, the former president expressed concern that it is a "botched peace" to reproduce and increase violence.

"In order to contribute constructively we said, we agree not treat this as an internal conflict, but if you need to treat it as such to ensure peace which treats it as a unilateral conflict," he said.

For Uribe, the guerrilla or paramilitary satin "should not go to jail, since some requirements are met: truth and reparation for victims, weapons delivery, etc.".

"This week told Congress that for the sake of peace we would accept that those who must go to jail, they are the leaders, along with a reduced sentence, do not have to be detained in an ordinary prison, but that may be a area in which it has prison conditions, "he said.

He added that 35,000 paramilitary and 18,000 guerrillas were demobilized during his tenure as president and said that if President Santos had followed your security policy, investment and social policies "certainly Colombia would be at peace but, most likely, the leaders would be refugees in Caracas or in Havana ".

"(We ask) that this dialogue should not have advance without a cessation of criminal activities by the FARC with concentration zone and verifiable. Surely it would have taken longer to start the dialogue, but would have more confidence in the process, "he said. EFE
