Report that caused the church fire in New York
The spectacular fire that destroyed last Sunday Orthodox Cathedral Serbian New York, a historic temple in the heart of Manhattan, would have been caused in an "accidental" by candles and is not "suspicious," said Wednesday the Fire Department city (FDNY). AFP
"The fire is not suspicious, seems an accidental incident caused by candles," he told AFP FDNY press office, after reports in the local press of a possible plot against Orthodox churches around the world on the same day.
According to the tabloid New York Post, citing sources in the investigation, it is not ruled out that the fire that destroyed the Cathedral of St. Sava, which only left standing walls, could be linked to other fires in Serbian Orthodox churches the Sunday Australia and Russia.
"We want to see if something is linked", those sources said the Post, adding that sought to know if there were "other common denominators" among the casualties.
Voracious flames several meters high were raised for hours through the roof and through the windows of the temple in New York, built in the 1850s and Gothic style and belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church for more than 70 years.
