North Korea announced that the party congress starts on May 6

North Korea reported today that the Seventh Party Congress of the Workers begin on May 6, thus ending the uncertainty about the date of this important event held for the first time in 36 years.

"The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) has decided to open the VII Congress in Pyongyang on May 6, 2016," the KCNA state news agency said in a statement.

North Korea did not specify how many days it will last Congress but Pyongyang sources told Efe that could last three to four days.

North Korea's state news agency said that everything is ready for the celebration of the event after being elected delegates and observers in the provincial party conferences.

In the last edition of the congress, held in October 1980, some 3,000 delegates took part in the Workers Party.
