Magnitude 5 quake shakes western France
An earthquake of magnitude 5 on the Richter scale jolted western France, according to French Seismic Observatory have revealed without major personal and material damage.
The quake took place at about 8.46 am (6.46 GMT) and its epicenter was between the towns of Rochefort and La Rochelle, near the Ile de RĂ©, which will be located next June headquarters of the Spanish team for Euro soccer.
The locals saw as many objects fell from shelves, but so far have not detected significant damage.
"At the moment have not received requests for help," said the Prefecture of Charente-Maritime in a statement, in which he said they are investigating whether there are more serious consequences in the structures of buildings.
This is the most important earthquakes recorded in the area since 2005.
