Guatemala recorded 16 homicides a day, one of the highest rates in the world

With an average of 16 homicides a day and a rate of 35 victims per 100 thousand inhabitants, Guatemala remains one of the most violent countries in the world, as highlighted by the human rights report released today by the humanitarian organization Mutual Support Group (GAM ).

The work of the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) and the Public Ministry (MP) has reduced the homicide rate between January and October 3.48%, according to the study.

However, violence remains a chronic problem in the Central American country, with 4,734 victims of homicide in the first ten months of the year, 171 fewer than in 2014.



A 84.71% of deaths in this period were men, while women account for 15.29% of the victims, with an upward trend that seems to indicate that the year will close with more women died because of the violence.

Also, they have soared by more than 30% aggression against minors, especially against girls, with a total of 31 dead versus 24 last year.
