The recall affects 2013 and 2014 models equipped with 3.5 liter engines GTDI. Of all vehicles included in the recall, 225,012 are in the United States, 43,682 in Canada and 402 in Mexico.
Ford said its dealers will replace free master cylinders of the front brakes of vehicles, which are the only ones affected by the leak brake fluid.
The company added that it has received allegations that the defect has caused at least nine accidents without injuries.
