A cruise ship rescued this weekend in the Caribbean to twelve Cuban
rafters, who were brought on board and handed over to the authorities of
Grand Cayman, reported Efe United States Coast Guard.
The ship, the Disney company, was traveling from Miami to Grand Cayman when Saturday afternoon they saw a weak boat south of the island of Cuba, he reported CNN.
Earlier this month, authorities in the Cayman Islands reported that more than 120 Cubans had arrived in their territory so far that year.
The same cruise, the Disney Wonder, with a capacity for 3,500 people, including passengers and crew, and rescued in 2013 to another group of 8 immigrants south of Key West, at the southern tip of Florida.
Last October, the "Freedom of the Seas" cruise company Royal Caribbean, rescued seven Cuban rafters who were about ten days adrift in a precarious little boat, which then sailed the waters of the Strait Florida.
More than 17,000 Cuban immigrants arrived in the country in the last three months of 2015, a figure almost double the figure recorded in the same period last year.
This increase in immigration to US Cuban citizens demonstrates the fear that the restoration of relations between the US and Cuba causes the elimination of the Cuban Adjustment Act (1961), which makes it easier to get US residency. EFE
