Apple asks a court to revoke order to hack iPhone locked

Apple Inc. on Thursday asked a federal judge to revoke its order for the company to help the FBI to hack an iPhone, and accused the US government of seeking a "dangerous power" through the courts.

The demand represents the first official response from Apple since the order of the judge last week and is based on arguments made by the Executive Director and supporters of the company.

The Department of Justice proposes an "unlimited interpretation" of the law which, if not checked, could lead to disastrous repercussions for digital privacy, the company said in a memorandum submitted to the judge Sheri Pym.

"The government says' just this once 'and' just for this phone." But the government knows that these statements are not true, "Apple's lawyers wrote.

The demand was made the same day the FBI director James Comey, defended the government's position during a separate appearance on Capitol Hill, where lawmakers said the agency is looking for specialized software only for a phone that is part of an investigation into terrorism.

The dispute became public last Tuesday when Pym went to Apple to help the FBI to access the phone used by one of the perpetrators of the bombing of San Bernardino, California, which occurred on December 2.
