ISIS states possessing Russian missile system

The terrorist group Islamic State has published photographs of a Kvadrat anti-aircraft missile system, a modification of the 2K12 Kub (SA-6 Gainful in NATO designation) designed in Soviet times to protect ground forces from air attack, reports the Russian TV channel Ren TV.

The gun was allegedly obtained during the fighting in the vicinity of the base of the Syrian army near the town of Deir ez Zor.

With photographs published terrorists aim to threaten the pilots who carried out bombing their positions in Syria.

The spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Konashenkov, meanwhile said that the fighters of the Islamic State have antiaircraft weapons that give them the ability to shoot down military aircraft and cargo aircraft.

"Indeed, the militants have weapons like [automatic cannon] ZSU-23, allowing them to engage targets at a height of 4,000 meters, and even easier to air conveyor oversized Il-76 of the Syrian Air Force" he said.

Some experts doubt that terrorists are able to use the anti-aircraft system. They point out that this machine to handle a team of specialists is needed.
