Panic in Nigeria: two suicide teenagers kill 20 people in a market

The number of dead in double bombing today in a crowded market in the city of Kano, in northern Nigeria, has risen to 20, according to hospital sources confirmed to Efe.

Police Commissioner of Kano, Katsina Muhammadu, told reporters that the two explosions were caused by two teenage girls who blew themselves up in the place, but could not give further details.

Several witnesses reported that the first explosion occurred at the entrance of the market and immediately there was another in the middle, creating panic among customers and shopkeepers, who did not know where to flee.

The twin bombings came just 24 hours after a suicide attack at a market in Yola, capital of Adamawa State, in northeastern Nigeria, which killed 32 people and wounded 80.

It was the first attack in Kano since early July this year, when another teenager, after being refused access to a mosque, blew himself up without causing casualties.

In 2015 Boko Haram has killed more than 3,000 people despite having lost most of the territory it controlled at the hands of Nigeria and Chad, which began earlier this year to coordinate attacks against the terrorist group around Lake Chad.

Despite major progress achieved, Boko Haram remains a major threat to the security of the area partly because Nigeria and its regional allies have been unable to deploy joint multinational force agreed midyear.
