The Portuguese parliament with a majority left from the legislative elections of October 4, voted at first reading on Friday, four draft law entitling adoption to homosexual couples.

The texts were adopted with the votes of the left parties and about twenty deputies of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, center-right) Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho.
"It is a very important step to enable more families to realize projects of adoption, but also to protect the number of children living in families that did not wait for the law to form" Luisa Corvo, president of the defense association welcomed the rights of homosexuals ILGA Portugal.
In Portugal, adopting individual was already open to all but the law authorizing gay marriage, in force since February 2010, explicitly excludes the right of adoption for same-sex couples.
"The certainty that homoparentality is not at all harmful to the development of children is scientifically proven," say the Socialists in his bill, stating that adoption by homosexual couples is already permitted in "18 countries themselves as in 38 states or jurisdictions in the United States. "
This was the fourth time since 2012 that the Portuguese Assembly decides on the issue, and the Socialist Party had raised as an election promise.
The outgoing right-wing coalition won the elections last month, but lost the absolute majority at its disposal in the Parliament since 2011.
