Climate Summit observed a minute's silence for the victims of the attacks

Participants at the climate summit in Paris (cop21) today kept a minute of silence during the opening of the same at the request of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, for the victims of terrorism, a few days after the attacks of the French capital, Saint Denis.

"I thank President Francois Hollande, who has held this meeting despite the barbaric attacks," said Ban, who asked all the delegates to keep that moment of silence.

Delegates from 195 countries, including 150 heads of state and government are meeting in Paris, and paid tribute to the victims.

The UN secretary general said that "no cause can justify the violence that has occurred in recent days in Paris, but also in Beirut, in Baghdad or in Bamako".

Ban expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the attacks, which caused 130 deaths and more than 350 injured in various parts of the French capital and in the vicinity of the Stade de France in Saint Denis. EFE
