The Turkish police arrested Tuesday at Istanbul airport to eight Moroccans suspected of belonging to the group Islamic State (EI) who wanted to illegally travel to Germany, said Wednesday the pro-government agency Anatolia.
The eight detainees, who arrived on a flight from Casablanca (Morocco), told police they were tourists who had booked hotel rooms, according to people close to the security services cited by the Turkish middle sources.
The police found that the statements were false and individuals gave the eight suspects in an anti-terrorist unit.
One of those arrested was a handwritten document detailing a route to reach Germany by train or bus.
According to the same sources, they intended to impersonate Syrian refugees.
More than 650,000 migrants, mostly Syrians fleeing the war in their country, passed through Turkey to cross the Aegean towards the Greek islands, gateways to the European Union.
