John W. Hinckley, the man who fired shots at President Ronald Reagan in 1981, will be released from a psychiatric hospital more than 35 years after the assassination attempt today ordered a federal judge in the US.
Hinckley, 61, is no longer a threat to himself or others and may leave the Hospital St. Elizabeth's in Washington on August 5, but will be subject to conditions of treatment and supervision, said Judge Paul L. Friedman in an opinion issued in the US capital.
On March 30, 1981, Hinckley opened fire at the exit Reagan Washington Hilton Hotel, that left the then US president after a speech, and a bullet pierced a lung.
