The European Central Bank (ECB) announced Wednesday that it will stop issuing tickets of 500 euros, a decision that takes into account "the concern that these notes facilitate illegal activities."
The ECB "has decided to permanently stop the production of 500 euro and exclude series in Europe, taking into account the concern that these notes facilitate illegal activities," the agency said in a statement after a meeting of its Governing Council, stating that they are outstanding may continue to be used as payment.
