Presented a prototype to produce electricity

The Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa, one of the world leaders in the sector, presented a prototype generator that can supply power in remote locations without access to the network, such as islands or mines Tuesday.

The prototype, opened in La Muela, near Zaragoza (center), combines a wind turbine, solar panels, a diesel generator and batteries to store electricity.

The total capacity of this model, presented as a novelty in the world, is 2 megawatts that would cover consumption of 800 families, said David Mesonero, CEO of Gamesa development.

According to the company, about 1,200 million people worldwide do not have access to the electricity distribution network.

Production outside network or 'off-grid' allow individuals or companies meet their energy needs without being connected to the network and not rely solely on diesel power stations.

Gamesa, one the top five wind turbine manufacturers in the world, estimated at about 2,000 megawatts potential for solutions 'off-grid' in 2020. By that date, provides "sales of over 500 million euros" market, said Mesonero .
