Google modular phone will be a reality soon
The Ara Project is a smart phone with interchangeable pieces of hardware. Google showed the latest version during a panel Google I / O last Friday.
The 5.3-inch smartphone has a permanent unit and up to six square and rectangular modules that can be removed without restarting the phone. The idea is to make a highly adaptable and versatile phone that can be updated piece by piece, rather than buying a whole new smartphone every two years.
For example, you could add different types of cameras, microphones or speakers professional quality, or a new battery.
A developer version will be available this fall. Instead of making a phone applications, developers are invited to design their own pieces of hardware. Google is also working with companies such as Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, iHealth and E Ink in custom modules.
The phone is expected Ara give yourself some time since the company introduced the project in 2014 and said it would be available in 2015.
