Berlin Protestant churches will have Hotspot: Free Wifi
Protestant churches of Berlin, Brandenburg and Upper Lusatia (East Germany) will offer free wifi with the name "godspot" in the buildings it owns in the region, after checking that the temples losing ground to social networks.
The Evangelical Church reported that among the 3,000 buildings that will have the "godspot" no later than May 2017, about 220 churches have, in addition to presbyteries and other church agencies in the region.
The manager of the technological area of the Evangelical Church, Fabian Kraetschmer justified told regional broadcaster rbb far to say that the temples have been displaced as communication centers for social networks and digital communities.
In Berlin, for example, it will be offered free wifi in the French Cathedral and William II Memorial, two landmark in the center of the German capital Church buildings.
Those who connect to "godspot" will be initially redirected to a page with information about the building, the parish and theological content, from where they can access the Internet without registration.
According to the latest yearbook of the Evangelical Church in Germany, Protestantism has more than 23 million faithful in the country, while 24.2 million citizens is Catholic.
