Argentina activated a device to delve into studies of the ozone layer
Argentina put into operation Brewer spectrophotometer, a device which can be measured by ultraviolet radiation and further studies of the ozone layer, said the Ministry of Defense.
The unique in the country and enabled by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Research for Defence (CITEDEF), works at the Atmospheric Observatory of Southern Patagonia (OAPA) and is the result of SAVER-Net project tool, which Argentina took out with Chile and Japan.
Specifically, the device function is to study the "drastic reduction in ozone content over the Antarctic region, commonly called 'ozone hole'," said the ministerial portfolio in a press release.
Dutch origin, the device has special features to study ultraviolet radiation and ozone, as it can get ozone profiles from the surface to 50 kilometers high twice daily and reveals the UV index and synthesis vitamin D, relevant to human health parameters.
This acquisition adds to other atmospheric measurement instruments belonging to CITEDEF and make the OAPA one of the "most important continuous monitoring of ozone and ultraviolet radiation in the southern hemisphere" places, it added.
