How many times can discover the same discovery?
On Monday, Nature Materials published an article by researchers at the University of Cambridge which basically summed up in "just discovered a new state of matter".
The funny thing is that if we looked a little internet we discovered that, despite the redundancy, had already discovered the MIT in 2012 and, in fact, had been published in the same Nature. Moreover, the holder with which he communicated is the same: "discover a new state of matter".
How many times can you say that we have found exactly the same discovery?
Beyond the anecdote, this is a symptom of something that has been happening for a long time: the system of scientific innovation is breaking at the seams and is in the midst of a deep crisis.
One day, in less years than we think, someone will roll the scientific version of 'The Big Bet' and we will wonder how we did not see. Because if one thing is clear it is that the tracks are here.
