China force Apple to close its books and movies services

The Government of China requires the US multinational technology Apple to close its bookselling services (iBooks Store) and movies (iTunes Movies) in the country, published Friday The New York Times, citing unidentified sources.

According to the daily, the shutdown occurred last week, six weeks after services had begun to operate and by a request from Chinese regulator, the State Administration for Press, Publishing, Radio, Film and Television.

Although at first the bite of the apple company had won approval from the Chinese government to introduce these two services in China, the regulator subsequently demanded its closure.
"We hope to put the books and the movies again available to our customers in China as soon as possible," the newspaper said an Apple spokesman.

Unlike many other US companies in the technology industry, Apple had just encountered resistance from the authorities so far to introduce new products in the Chinese market.

Among others, Apple has available in China electronic payment service Pay Apple, which a priority could have been even more sensitive to the Chinese authorities that sales of books and movies.

According to the daily, if the new trend towards Apple by the Beijing government confirmed, the expansion plans of the company in the Asian giant could be harmed.
