"Powerful signal" radio space alien intelligence search Relaunches

Detection of a "strong signal" by a powerful Russian radiotelescope in 2015 scanned the sky for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence arouses great interest in the scientific community.

This signal whose characteristics could lead to think of a transmission from an extraterrestrial intelligence could well also be a radio interference or the result of a natural phenomenon, reported over the weekend the specialized website Centauri Dreams, making public for the first time this observation.

"No one pretends that it is a transmission from an alien civilization, but certainly worth studying more," wrote Paul Gilster, author of this page covering scientific research on deep space exploration.

Gilster revealed the discovery after seeing a presentation on the subject of Italian astronomer Claudio Maccone.

The signal comes from the direction of a Sun-like star located in the constellation Hercules (HD164595), about 95 light years from Earth.

Scientists know that this star has at least one planet and could have others.

The signal was detected on 15 May 2015 by the radiotelescope RATAN-600 in the Russian republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia, near the border with Georgia.

The team of astronomers led by Nikolai Bursov of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said it is too early to determine the nature and origin.

However, he believes that is interesting enough "to ask which is the subject of ongoing observation," writes Paul Gilster.

This finding should be discussed at the 67th International Astronomy Conference to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, on September 27.
