Francisco announces that he will visit areas affected by the earthquake in Italy

Pope Francisco showed Sunday solidarity with earthquake victims Wednesday in central Italy and said after the traditional Angelus that "hardly possible" will move to the area.

"I also hope to go to find them, to take them personally to the support of faith and Christian hope," the pontiff added.

Francisco said from the balcony of the Apostolic Palace to the faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square, "his spiritual closeness to the inhabitants of Lazio, Marche and Umbria, hit hard by the earthquake of these days."

"I think especially in the people of Amatrice, Arquata del Tronto, Norcia. Again I say to those dear people that the Church shares their suffering and their concerns, and pray for the dead and the survivors," the pope said.

The earthquake of magnitude 6 on the Richter scale, struck last Aug. 24 at several locations in central Italy and caused 290 deaths, according to the latest provisional official count.
