"The coming days will be crucial, the world will be watching," Obama said after a meeting with his National Security Council in Washington, stressing the responsibility of Moscow and Damascus at this early stage to try to end the "chaos" Syrian .

Since starting in 2011, the war in Syria has left more than 270,000 dead and forced half the population to flee their homes.

In this conflict, Russia and Iran support the regime of Bashar al-Assad while the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey support the rebels.

"The cessation of hostilities due to come into force tomorrow (Friday) at midnight is possible to end the chaos stage," Obama said.

"Everyone knows what must happen: all parties must put an end to the attacks, including airstrikes, and should be able to carry out humanitarian aid in the areas under siege," he recalled.

"All this will depend largely on the respect of their commitments by the Syrian regime, Russia and its allies," he added.

Asad regime, the opposition and Kurdish forces have already announced that they will respect the truce, sponsored by the United States and Russia, and expected to enter into force on Saturday at 00H00 (22H00 GMT Friday).

The truce agreement excludes the jihadists of the Islamic State (EI) and the Frente Al Nosra -the Syrian branch of Al Qaida- two rival groups occupying much of the country. Therefore they continue to be the target of attacks the regime airstrikes Russia, its ally, as well as the international coalition led by the United States.
