Obama: I still think that Mr. Trump will not be president


President Barack Obama said Monday he does not believe that the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump country will be his successor, although the magnate continues to lead the polls and already claimed victory in primary New Hampshire last week.

"I still think that Mr. Trump will not be president and the reason is that I have great faith in the American people," said the president asked reporters at a press conference on the occasion of the summit of leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held in California.

"I think that foreign observers are concerned by the rhetoric that has taken place in these Republican primary," said the president.


Regarding the battle for the Democratic nomination, Obama stated that the two candidates, the former First Lady Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, are making "healthy debate" on issues of concern to Democratic voters.


"But I'm not sad to not be on the ballot," he joked the president, who will leave the White House in January 2017.


The president rejected position in favor of either candidate, but admitted he knows better Clinton because she was his secretary of state from 2009 to 2013, after Obama, then a senator from Illinois, own beat him in the Democratic primary for the 2008 elections.
