Obama defends "urgency" arms control

The US president, Barack Obama, today defended the "urgency" to act to improve the control of arms sales in the country, introducing a set of executive measures to try to avoid that, as now, 30,000 people die each year in incidents involving firearms.

In a ceremony at the White House, accompanied by relatives of victims of violence caused by guns, Obama stressed that the country has experienced "too many shootings" massive in recent years and that does not happen in other developed countries.

"We must have a sense of urgency" because every day "people die" because of firearms, said the president.
