The two managers of the web Altermedia Deutschland, considered the main German neo-Nazi website, were arrested and the page was closed, said Wednesday the German authorities.

The two suspects, two Germans called Jutta V., 47, and Ralph Thomas K., 27, are accused of having founded a criminal and incitement to racial hatred organization, said federal prosecutors based in Karlsruhe (south) in a statement.

The web "horrible spreading xenophobic and racist comments," Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere was quoted by the DPA news agency said on his part.

Involved, which could be sentenced to up to five years in prison, will appear on Wednesday and Thursday before a judge who will decide on his detention.

Altermedia Deutschland, considered the main website of the extreme right in German, promoting violence against foreigners, used words of "contempt" for some religions and denied the Holocaust, according to prosecutors.

In addition to the homes of those arrested, there were records in other regions of Germany and in the Spanish town of Lloret de Mar, the report said.

The server containing the web is in Russia and will be closed "in the coming days," said the prosecutor. The web was not available Wednesday, checked AFP.
