A daughter of Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman in Mexico managed to register the alias of his father as a trademark.
Alejandrina Giselle Guzman got the approval of the name "El Chapo" for four types of products, including jewelry, watches, leather goods, luggage, toys and Christmas tree ornaments.
The registry was approved by the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), which had previously rejected several requests of relatives of "El Chapo".
The daughter of "El Chapo" his ex-wife Alejandrina Salazar and his current wife, Emma Coronel, made 24 attempts, but most were rejected.
Among the brands that tried to enroll included "El Chapo Guzman", "Don Chapo Guzman", "El Chapito" and "Joaquin El Chapo Guzman". However, the IMPI refused to register, arguing that it was "the alias or nickname of a person being sought by the Attorney General's office for committing various crimes."
