An American couple appeared before a Spanish judge charged with reckless homicide after police found at his home the body of her seven years in an advanced state of decomposition.
The body of the child, the youngest of three brothers, was found at his home in the city of Girona (in northeastern Spain) where for over a year lived in rent is US couple, 39 and 38 years.
"The owner of the apartment complained to the police several months of unpaid rent. When officers entered the apartment, there was the gruesome discovery of the dead child lying on a bed, like I was sleeping", he told AFP a police spokesman .
"He had died several weeks and had no signs of violence."
An autopsy ruled out a violent death.
Both parents passed a psychiatric examination at a local hospital, while social services in the region took custody of the two children of 12 and 14.
According to local media, citing sources in the investigation, they lived together for nearly a month in child decomposing corpse, found on a bed covered with blankets and sheets in the same room where the family ate and lived.
"They think I was asleep," said the police spokesman.
Friday, parents testified before a judge who charged them with the crime of reckless homicide, a judicial source.
Parents were left on bail, but was withdrawn passport to prevent his departure from Spain.
