United States (USA) apologized to Venezuela for overflying its airspace during a counternarcotics operation earlier this month, said Tuesday the US military chief for Latin America and the Caribbean.
As reported by AFP, General John Kelly, Head of the Southern Command, admitted that US aircraft flew 3.5 minutes in Venezuelan territorial space. "He flew 3.5 minutes within the 12-mile limit, but not approached nine miles," he said.
In that sense, the US official acknowledged the action violates the territorial sovereignty of Venezuela and indicated that the United States has already offered "an apology"
"We admit and offered an apology," Kelly said as he explained what had happened. The official said the plane entered Venezuelan airspace while tracking a vessel was carrying a ton of cocaine.
