Friday the president of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos, announced in an interview that is about to legalize marijuana for medicinal use.
"I hope in the next three to four days," he said the Colombian president told local media.
"It is scientifically proven that marijuana has medicinal attributes much," he added.
The decree regulates the possession of seeds and plants, production, distribution, sale, possession and export.
This is a key point, because as Santos said, "there is a great demand, there are companies in Canada and the United States who are using marijuana for an amount of therapeutic drug treatments."
Cocaine not
Asked by BBC Mundo, Santos ruled out the implementation of a decree or similar legislation for cocaine, of which Colombia is the world's largest producer is provided.
"The marijuana for medicinal uses have no problem legalize and use".
"It's the same with other drugs, because there is no scientific evidence that cocaine or heroin are good for any type of active ingredient for a medicine," he said.
