Merkel insists that will have to change the European Asylum System

Merkel cited Article 1 of the German Constitution, which declares inviolable human dignity, adding that "that is not valid only for Germans or Europeans but for all human beings."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, today insisted on the need to change the European asylum system that in many ways has stopped working before the large influx of refugees is reaching the continent.

"For a long time in Germany we live well with the Dublin system. The refugees were the problem of the others but that's no longer the case. Nor can we expect that Italy and Greece take the full weight of the problem, so we have to do if anything changes the system, "Merkel said at a rally of his party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), EFE reported.

Merkel expressed optimism that may face the refugee crisis successfully but added that to achieve this we must take political action right in Germany and in Europe, respecting the values on which the European Union (EU) is supported.

"We can meet the challenge posed by refugees, I'm convinced of it because we have always overcome big challenges, but we have to take the right steps and guided by our values," he said.

Then Merkel cited Article 1 of the German Constitution, which declares inviolable human dignity, adding that "that is not valid only for Germans or Europeans but for all human beings."

The Chancellor added that therefore all who seek refuge should be received worthily and said that those who preach against xenophobia must drop the full weight of the law.

However, Merkel also said that those who come to Germany not seeking refuge from war or political persecution but for economic reasons should return to their countries of origin after being denied asylum.

For this purpose, it is necessary to accelerate the recognition of asylum procedures as it has proposed the current coalition government.

Moreover, according to Merkel, it is required more support to neighboring countries and recalled how in refugee camps UN had to halve the daily food ration.

"When that happens we can not be surprised that people take the path for us to seek a better life," Merkel said.
