Kate had winds of 120 km per hour (category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale of up to 5) when it was 420 km north of Bermuda, reported at 0900 GMT the US National Hurricane Center (NHC English ).

Although quite far from Bermuda, will cause in the English archipelago "waves and currents that can endanger the life" for Wednesday, the NHC warned.

Kate continue to move rapidly northeast to become an extratropical cyclone and weaken.

The hurricane season, which began in June, expires at the end of the month. So far there have been eleven storms, including four with hurricane power.

The most powerful hurricane of the season was Joaquin, Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale of up to 5, in early October that left extensive damage in the Bahamas and caused the sinking of the freighter "El Faro" with 33 crew on board no survivors.

In addition, in August Tropical Storm Erika left thirty people dead and extensive damage in the small Caribbean island of Dominica.
