The derailment of a high speed train (TGV) in evidence today caused at least five deaths and seven wounded by the Alsatian village of Eckwersheim, in the east of the country, local media reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the train overturned and some of the cars fell into a canal, before catching fire.
In principle nothing to suggest a hypothetical link with a terrorist action, the sources said.
The train was derailed and technical board "because of excessive speed." Several wounded had to be taken to hospitals by helicopter.
