The president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, is not presented to the polls in 2017, said Wednesday the president of the National Assembly deEcuador, although his political movement will continue to support the constitutional changes that allow indefinite reelection.

Correa, an economist who enjoys a high popularity, kept on hold its decision to stand in the next elections although support had to change the 2008 Constitution.
"We recognize the leadership in social transformation processes at national and regional level, and his tireless work (Correa ...), so we respect their decision," he told reporters the president of the Assembly, Gabriela Rivadeneira, very close to leader.
Correa took office in 2007 and has maintained his popularity based on millionaires investment projects.
Support for Correa's decision not to participate in the elections was accompanied by a resolution of its political movement, Alianza País, which controls the Assembly-, to include a new requirement for approval of indefinite reelection.

The ruling decided "to support the approval of proposed Constitutional Amendment, with their amendments," she added.
The package of amendments includes several changes to the Constitution, besides the indefinite reelection.
