Arrested in Costa Rica to Syrian woman with a Greek passport

The police authorities of Costa Rica today arrested a Syrian woman who entered the country last Tuesday with a Greek passport, a similar case that was presented this week in Honduras with five Syrians.

The arrest was carried out by the security forces in a small hotel in San Jose and the woman is under the orders of the authorities investigating the case to determine what appropriate legal and migration.

Syria came to Costa Rica on Tuesday from Argentina and identified herself as Maria Pirri, told Efe a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Security.



The source explained that the woman is in custody awaiting the International Police (Interpol) corroborate their identity and determine whether you have any outstanding justice cause.

Costa Rica will investigate whether this woman is related to the case presented in Honduras, where two days ago were arrested at an airport with five Syrian Greeks stolen passports.

It has not been established if the woman's passport is also stolen.

The Immigration Department of Costa Rica confirmed that these five people were in the country from 11 to 17 November.

The Government of Honduras said today that the five Syrians tried to travel to the US with Greek passports stolen and have no links to terrorist groups.

Thousands flee Syria since the outbreak of civil war in 2011, which has left more than 250,000 dead and 13 million refugees, according to UN data.
