The Islamic State (EI) prepares 17 attacks in US since early 2014 and, in total, the jihadist group is related to more than 60 plans to attack Western targets, according to the president of the National Security Committee of the House of Representatives, Michael McCaul said today.
"This pace of terror is unprecedented rivals and is even higher than Al Qaeda at its peak. We are not closer to dismantle the EI than we were a year ago, "said McCaul, R-Texas, during a hearing at the National Security Committee of the House.
"The EI has inspired or directed 17 terrorist plots in the United States since early 2014 and, in general, the group is related to more than 60 plots against Western targets, from Canada to Australia," said McCaul, who questioned the strategy of bombing US.
For more than a year ago, the United States led an international coalition that attacks from the air EI positions with the aim of undermining the power of the jihadist group, who proclaimed the end of June 2014 a caliphate in Syria and Iraq.
"The reign of terror of the Islamic State is fueled by the recruitment of foreign fighters, coming from over a hundred countries, including our own," warned McCaul.
Before him, in a packed hall of Congress, three of those responsible for security .: US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson sat; FBI Director James Comey; and the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Nicholas Rasmussen.
All agreed that one of the greatest threats of EI is its propaganda power and their use of new technologies to recruit new members and to inspire "lone wolves" profile that authorities describe those individuals who isolation attempt on foreign soil.
"Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) no longer hides the fact that builds bombs, but it advertised a manual in your journal instructions and urges people to use it," Johnson exemplified.
In his speech, the Secretary for Security told the congressmen that the Syrian refugees who reach US subject "at the highest level of security controls," his criminal record and his biography will examine both the time seeking refuge as they enter the country.
"All refugees admitted to the United States, including those of Syria, will be subject to strict security controls," said Johnson.
The biggest concerns US are the entry of new terrorists and recruitment, by the EI, Western citizens when dealing with individuals with freedom of movement and could carry out attacks in European or American soil.
